The number the Port of Galveston does not publish

Start here, because it inverts the usual advice. At most cruise ports the official lot publishes a daily rate and every hotel package is measured against it. Galveston does not. As of September 2026 the port's own parking page says only that "Different rates are offered based on which lot you choose to park in (covered or uncovered) and proximity to cruise terminals." There is no rate table anywhere on the site. The price exists only inside the reservation engine, on your dates.

In Galveston, a hotel that publishes its parking term in plain language is giving you more certainty than the port itself does, which is why every pick below had to clear that bar. Every term quoted below was read on the property's own site in September 2026.

What the port does publish is the operating detail, and it is worth knowing. Cancellation is generous but hard-edged: "Cancel a reservation via the official Port of Galveston website prior to and up until your day of sailing without incurring any cancellation fees", with the qualifier "You must cancel 24 hours prior to your sail date. After the date of sailing, you will not be refunded." Missing the ship is your problem — "We do not offer refunds for denied boarding." Booking opens early: "We usually make Galveston cruise parking reservations available within 18 months of the sailing date." And the lots are not early risers — "Our facilities open for operation at 9 a.m. on most sailing days."

1. Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier 21

Harbor House sits on the pier, and its own cruise page does not hedge about it: "Located right on Pier 21, Harbor House is the closest hotel to the Cruise Port." It puts a number on the walk — "Our hotel is just a short 7-minute walk to the Galveston Cruise Terminal" — and states the long-stay position directly: "We are happy to offer long term parking while you're on your cruise."

The sentence that earns it the top spot is the one that ties parking to the shuttle: "Guests who leave their vehicle parked on-site during their cruise receive complimentary round-trip shuttle service to the cruise terminal." And then, unusually, it prices the alternative instead of leaving it vague: "For guests not parking on-site, shuttle service is available for $15 per person, which includes return transportation after your cruise."

That is the whole decision in two sentences. A party of four not parking on site pays that $15 four times over before anyone lifts a bag, which is exactly the sort of line item a package page usually buries. The page does not publish a parking rate, so confirm that figure when you book — but the structure is stated in writing and checkable, which is more than most of the island offers.

2. Moody Gardens Hotel

Moody Gardens is the resort option, and it is not a walk to the terminals — its Cruise Package is written to solve exactly that. The package description states: "Enjoy a relaxing guest room stay with valet parking for your car and round-trip transportation to and from the port for up to four guests." It adds the availability term most park-and-cruise pages omit: "This convenient package is available any day of cruise embarkation."

The parking allowance is explicit and it covers the sailing, not the night: "The Cruise Package includes a grand guest room and Valet parking for all nights of your cruise." The limits are published too — "One car per package. All additional cars will be $60 each for up to 7 nights." For a two-car family group, that is a real number you can put in a spreadsheet rather than a phone call you have to make.

One thing to price in, and it is brand new. The same page carries a fee notice: "Beginning September 28, 2026 Resort Amenities Fee $20 plus tax, per room, per night. Covers self-parking, Wi-Fi, indoor and outdoor pool access, the 24-hour fitness center, bicycle rental and more." The page does not state whether the fee applies on top of the Cruise Package, so ask before you book a stay that starts on or after that date. 3. The Tremont House

The Tremont House is downtown, in the historic district, and its Park & Sail Package is the shortest term of the three. The package page lists exactly two inclusions: "Park One Car for up to 7 Days" and "Transportation to Cruise Terminal".

There is nothing else to interpret, and that is the appeal. Seven days is the published ceiling — a longer Caribbean itinerary needs a phone call before you book, not after. No per-person shuttle charge is stated, no second-car rate is stated, and no parking rate is stated, so treat the package as covering one car and one transfer and confirm anything beyond that. For a seven-night sailing with one vehicle, it is the cleanest promise on the island.

What each pick is really competing against

Worth remembering that the port's own lots are not a fallback so much as the default. Several are within walking distance of the terminals: the Express Lot is described as "conveniently located steps outside of Cruise Terminal 28" with 680 spaces, and the economy lots run free buses — "At lots that offer shuttle service, the shuttle service is complementary", running "About every 5-7 minutes". You can drop bags first: "Yes, you can drop off your luggage at the terminal before you park."

Two physical constraints catch people out. The SMP garage clearance is "6 feet, 8 inches", which rules out many roof boxes and lifted trucks, and standard spaces are "Most of our spaces are a standard 9 feet by 19 feet." The port also warns off the lookalikes: "The Port of Galveston is not affiliated in any private parking lot operators."

Who missed the cut, and why

The San Luis Resort publishes a Stay, Park & Cruise package, but its page describes only the transport side — "Simplify your travel plans with convenient pre- and post-cruise transportation to and from the Galveston Cruise Ship Terminal" — with no parking term stated. It may well be a good package; it is not a checkable one.

Hilton Galveston Island Resort is absent for a different reason. hilton.com returned an error page reading "Something went wrong" to our requests on 22 September 2026, so we have no first-party terms to quote and publish none.
